Shiatsu training offered by SYM
Yoga and Do-In : integrated into all Shiatsu courses in order to enhance body awareness, facilitate the flow of energy and help students understand and overcome some of their own postural and internal imbalances.
these courses teach all the basic Shiatsu techniques working in prone, supine, side and sitting position as well as basic theoretical principles of Shiatsu and Chinese Medicine including meridians and acu-points and will allow students to work with confidence on friends or family.
advanced Shiatsu including Oriental diagnosis, in-depth theoretical and practical training with a view to taking the national exam set by the various federations.
Our approach to learning is based on the apprenticeship system; we therefore invite students to do any levels a 2nd or 3rd time (for a small contribution), to practice the basics, stay in touch with students and teachers and really master Shiatsu.
First year
Level 1 : Beginners Shiatsu

- Do-In exercises and the 6 Makkho-ho stretches to stimulate energy flow in the meridians
- Principles of touch:
- Sensitivity to Qi and positive connection to receiver's Qi.
- Supportive touch. Natural, relaxed pressure. Perpendicular pressure. Stationary pressure.
- Continuity and fluency of movement.
- Mental and physical concentration.
- Good posture and breathing centered in the hara.
- Techniques : Shiatsu in prone and supine positions.
- Theoretical introduction and contra-indications
Level 2 : Beginners Shiatsu
90 hours in 6 weekends.

- Meridian and Tsubo theory:
- Accurate location of the classical meridians.
- Introduction to organ and meridian functions.
- Accurate location of Tsubo, how to stimulate these points and how to integrate tsubo theory in a Shiatsu treatment.

- The 5 elements or transformations:
- Understanding and application of creative and controlling cycles in nature and humans.
- Signs or symptoms of imbalance in health.
- Correspondances usually used in Oriental Medicine e.g. colour, taste, emotions etc.
- Oriental diagnosis:
- Observation (posture, attitude, face, movement)
- Listening (tone of voice, breathing)
- Questioning (symptoms, medical history, lifestyle etc.)
- Palpation (meridians, YU and BO points, hara and back diagnostic zones continued
Third year
Level 4 : practitioner course
